Understanding Gaps in Student Mobility
The Erasmus GAP project explores the mobility gap through a desk research report & a GAP survey
on the March 13, 2025
March 13th
Earlier this year, the Erasmus GAP project consortium published a special Desk Research Report in conjunction with insights from the Erasmus+ GAP Survey 2024, both of which aim to analyse and provide a deeper understanding of the mobility gap between mobile and non-mobile students.
The research report keys in on understanding macro, meso, and micro-level factors contributing to gaps in international student mobility. From global trends (macro-level) like increasing internationalisation, and impacts of global crises, higher education institutions must adapt and foster mobility through academic networks, curriculum design, and institutional resources.
Characteristics of higher education institutions (meso-level) also play a great role in student mobility opportunities. Concurrently, institutions must grasp individual-level (micro-level) factors among students such as socioeconomic status, financial barriers, and peer influences.
By the same token, insights from the Erasmus+ GAP Survey 2024 serve as the basis for an inclusivity self-assessment toolkit to gain an in-depth understanding of how staff at higher education institutions perceive the mobility gap.
Keep an eye out for more updates regarding the project, including the upcoming release of the inclusivity toolkit!
