Student and Staff Training in Berlin: Workshop on How to Make Mobility More Inclusive

Participants in action

Students Propose a Solution to Bridge the Gap
Around forty participants gathered at Humboldt University in Berlin on September 18-19 to discuss equity, diversity, and inclusion within the Erasmus+ programme.

The GAP project aims to assist higher education institutions in understanding and addressing the gap between students who have easy access to international mobility and those who face barriers for a variety of reasons. It was essential to bring together student representatives and university staff who work closely with mobility programmes.

To accomplish this, the consortium organised workshops for staff, students, and joint sessions where both groups worked together. During these interactive workshops, participants discussed the causes and consequences of the mobility gap, and also co-created possible solutions.

As a result of the workshops, the consortium gained invaluable insights, feedback, and practical suggestions for further developing the GAP project tools. The event also fostered collaboration between participants from five different universities in Europe, creating a unique opportunity for students and staff to engage in dialogue about the future of learning mobility and the Erasmus+ programme.

Guided by the workshop objectives, the participants co-created concrete initiatives that could be implemented in their institutional contexts to address the inclusion gaps in learning mobility: from dissemination campaigns and peer to peer activities with Erasmus alumni, to improving intercultural competences of staff members to welcome international students.

In this context, participants are now encouraged to keep the momentum alive by nurturing the ideas that emerged during the sessions and staying connected with one another, so they can continue reflecting and working together on these important issues.
